Major milestone achieved with NGO status

Major milestone achieved with NGO status

It is our great pleasure to inform you that as part of the global “New Era” initiative the International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF) has recently achieved one more major milestone with the official completion and confirmation of our registration as an International Non Governmental Organization (NGO) with the Republic and State of Geneva (Switzerland).

This achievement follows and actually leverages the major changes already accomplished in this age of global Traditional Karate Renaissance, including:

  1. The ITKF Headquarters has been moved to Geneva (Switzerland) in proximity to the IOC, UN and other relevant international key organizations’ headquarters.
  2. A new ITKF Executive Board has been elected
  3. New contacts were established with Karate’s country of birth – Japan, at the governmental level, leading to a variety of joint initiatives including the possibility of holding the 2014 ITKF world championship in Tokyo-Japan
  4. The ITKF shall be holding the 2014 Traditional Karate Children’s Cup for Peace in the city of Geneva in cooperation with the Japanese mission to Switzerland on the occasion of celebrating the 150 anniversary for Swiss-Japan diplomatic relations.
  5. As part of the “New Era initiative” the ITKF is expanding its global initiative for leveraging BuDo (martial arts) principles and knowledge as an educational tool to be implemented within the respective countries educational systems. We are currently exploring possible cooperation with UNESCO in introducing this unique program within educational-sport systems worldwide.
  6. Traditional karate, as managed globally by the ITKF, is currently nominated to be included in the next World Games to be held 2017 in Wroclaw (Poland), awaiting the final decision of the International World Games Association (IWGA).

Now that we have officially accomplished International NGO status we are positioned better than ever before to serve our purpose as the international governing body promoting the art of Traditional Karate-Do worldwide  in line with the decision of the 101st Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

We look forward to cooperating with you and highly appreciate your support in promoting Traditional Karate worldwide and in each respective country .

Mr. Nelson Carrion, general secretary
