Visit in China – December 2016

On December 20 – 30, 2016 Andrzej Maciejewski, WTKF Vice-president and the originator of the project „ In the Footsteps of Karate”, with eleven-persons WTKF delegation from Poland and Ukraine, was with the official visit to China in Fujian province. They were there on the invitation of the Association of Martial Arts “White Crane” – the precursor of the school of Martial Arts in Okinawa. The purpose of this trip was to study the first traces of traditional karate, because they comes from “White Crane” school becoming from Yougchun.

During their stay in China WTKF delegation was accompanied by Zheng Xiaorong – chief instructor of the Association of Martial Arts “White Crane”, whom we had the pleasure to host at the WTKF International Camp Winter Gasshuku 2015. The first day ended with a welcome dinner with Zheng Chun Sheng – Director of the Department for Promotion of Physical Culture of Yongchun district.

The next days of camp began and ended with a three-hours basic trainings of manual systems – San Zhan, Qi Bu Jie Li forms and exercises in pairs. Training room – Wu Guan or Quan Guan – is located at the Buddhist temple which dates back over a thousand years ago. While trainings there was always time for drinking tea prepared in the traditional way.
Every day WTKF delegation took part in tours of Fujian province. The biggest attraction was a visit to the monastery in the southern Shaolin (Chan Shaolin) in Quanzhou where the participants of the expedition visited school of Master Zhang Xiaofeng, named Shan Wai Shan of Master Zhang Xiaofeng.

Members of the delegation participated in a ceremony in honour of the memory of the creator of the White Crane system – Fan Qiniang (Fang Jinian) – historical precursor of kung fu. They learned the basics of calligraphy in the Zheng Zhi An’a’s studio, who is a member of the Chinese Association of calligraphy. They had the opportunity to visit the historical houses of culture Min (Bei Xi Yuan). The group took part in the closing ceremony of the training camp for participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Mauritius. Thanks to the demonstrations which they watched, they could get to know the local customs and culture.
